Spider Veins

Also known as telangectasias, these smaller versions of varicose veins usually appear on the skin's surface as small, red to purple blood vessels on legs. These unsightly veins are more commonly referred to as spider veins since they resemble a spider web.

Spider veins usually do not pose a medical problem, although they can cause localized pain, itching and burning in many people. In some cases, spider veins are a sign of problems going on in the larger veins below, so your Phlebologist may recommend a diagnostic test before proceeding with cosmetic treatment. This is to ensure a more desirable cosmetic result. Women are 4 times greater to develop spider veins then men and risk factors are similar to those for varicose veins.

Vein Clinic PA uses the best treatments available for spider veins, including thermolysis and Sclerotherapy.

Thermolysis is a breakthrough treatment technology which can be used on even the smallest spider veins. An extremely tiny needle focuses energy directly onto the vein, and closes it immediately. It may be used anywhere on the body, including the face, chest, arms, and legs.

Sclerotherapy is another effective treatment option for Spider Veins. A very small needle is used to inject a special solution (sclerosant) inside the veins. The solution “closes” the vein, which eventually stops the blood flow inside it. Several veins can be treated in one session. Vein Clinic, PA uses the most sophisticated technology available to treat even the smallest vein.

It is possible that repeat injections may be necessary since some veins are more “stubborn” than others. We recommend that visits are at least one month apart.
